Day 25 of ’50 Miles in 50 Days’ brings us to the halfway mark of the journey to Firebaugh.
Just after Kettleman City heading north on the I-5 we come to the town of Avenal, a legendary oil boomtown of the 1920s and ’30s.
Standard Oil had a large part in building up the town into a true oil field capital of its time.
The iconic Avenal Theater was born during this time period in 1935 and has been refurbished to serve the good people of Kings County to this very day.
This is just one of the many towns with a great story on the journey along the I-5… and we’re just half of the way home.
